From the past post entitled much the same. It’s important to remember this very important principle – Children’s Ministry is Not Childcare! And to prove my point some more, I’ll give you the top 5 Reasons why it isn’t at least why it shouldn’t be:
5) Your children’s ministry is one of the first impressions that your church has, especially with moms. – It better be top notch, cause if mama ain’t happy…ain’t nobody happy!
4) Your church’s reputation depends on it! – Don’t be the church who is known for having a clever looking logo but a crappy children’s ministry.
3) Childcare is what they do for moms, Children’s Ministry is what we do for Jesus. – Ok, that’s a bit skewed but the truth is, any church can watch your kids but a church with a ministry plan for the progressive growth of your child’s faith is quite a bit more invested than the local baby sitting club.
2) A purposed Children’s Ministry opens up numerous opportunities for people to serve that don’t want to want to teach kids. Like they say – If it’s worth doing, it’s worth delegating and to someone who’s better than you at it. Don’t rob people the opportunity to use the gifts that the Good Lord gave them.
1) It’s the future of your church! Which means that who’s ever in charge in the church now needs to consider that their future boss might be in the kindergarten room right now playing games while sporting a Kool-aid mustache. Better treat them good now or it’s diaper duty for you!!!
My plea to Children’s Pastors: Don’t be content with the status quo, don’t ever let the “that will be ok, their just kids” statement ever be said in your ministry, and for God’s sake – Don’t let your Children’s Ministry become the “Church Childcare” – correct those who say it and let them know that it’s so much more.
My plea to Senior or Executive Pastors: Don’t give your children’s ministry the bones give them the steak. Don’t give them left overs, give them the menu. Treat your children’s ministry like it may hold the key to keeping the church from collapsing. Be desperate for it’s success. Help your children’s ministry reach their goals and never let it become the step-child of the church.
I’m sure there other reasons that go along with this but this is a my two cents for the day. More to come!
